Ken and Kara Wedding at Vine Hill House

Ken and Kara's wedding took place on July 27th, 2012 at Vine Hill House in Sebastopol, California.

The amazing backdrop of Mt. St. Helena as well as the wine barrel and wine ritual completed the ceremony.  The wedding had a local, rustic California wine country theme and much of the décor was handcrafted by the bride, her family and her bridal party. Rustic old wooden barn signs welcomed guests as they arrived on site.  The wood was gathered by the bride’s engineer brother who does a lot of work on houses and the signs were beautifully painted with the help of one of the bridesmaid’s mothers.

The wedding party was stunning and was complete with a natural tux-wearing pup!  The bride and her bridesmaids carried green and purple bouquets of cala lilies and orchids pieced together by the florist, Heather Hendrickson.  The bride wore green and purple Kate Spade heels which added some pop to the pictures.  She wore a satin and lace A-line dress to which she added fabric buttons and a jeweled belt.

Reverend Peadar Dalton, born and raised in Ireland, officiated Ken and Kara's wedding. His humor and insightful words made Ken and Kara's ceremony sacred and inspiring for everyone.

Fort Ross: 200 Years

I was fortunate to be hired by the Fort Ross Conservancy to photograph the Fort Ross Bicentennial Commemoration on July 28-29th. Established in 1812 eighty miles north of San Francisco, Russian explorers established Colony Ross to establish trade relations with the Spanish, produce food for Russian colonists in Alaska and expand the sea otter fur trade.

The event was a huge success, with an estimated 3,000 people visiting on Saturday alone. Here are a few pictures from this event:

My Daughter Alexandra assisting me at the Point Reyes Lighthouse.

I took this portrait of my daughter Alexandra (Sasha) out at the Point Reyes Lighthouse when she was assisting me for an engagement portrait.  She's a very talented photographer and has such a warm and playful personality that people immediately relax in her presence. I wish I could hire her for every assignment!

Black and white film images

These days I've been missing the look and whole process of black and white film. I love the irregular grain and physicality of it. I also miss making contact sheets out of the 36 images in a roll and finding a few gems. Here are a few images I recently scanned.  A few I posted to my Etsy site as fine prints.

Portraits of Holly and Jordan at Lake Leonard

I met with Holly and Jordan on December 2nd a Lake Leonard north of Ukiah. It is an amazing place for their wedding in June, 2012. Here's a link: http://www.leonardlakereservellc.com/

I loved the dark clothes and great hats they wore for this practice portrait session. The images  in black and white look like they could have been taken in the 1940s.

Autumn portraits

Thank you, Paul and Jessica for these great engagement portraits we took out at the Kortum Trail. The old barn has since become my favorite location for portraits. Thanks to my assistant/2nd shooter Ryan for finding this.
